Germaine is currently studying a Bachelor of Theology degree at Trinity College Queensland. He’s returning for his second year in 2020. We thought it would be good to ask him some questions about his time at Trinity so far.
Hi, Germaine. Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I have a Papua New Guinean background. I’m the second eldest in a family of four and I like serving in the worship ministry at my Church.
What made you interested in studying theology?
I wanted to study theology to mainly find out about our purpose in life, especially the reason and mission that God has created us for. In studying theology, I’m wanting to mature more in my faith and form a deeper relationship with God.
What do you think about your course at Trinity so far? What’s something you’ve learnt?
I have found it amazing! During most lectures, connections are made to questions that I have been seeking clarity to for some time. One thing I have learnt is that we should live our whole lives as worship to God. We tend to compartmentalise our lives, to the point where we only practice our faith on Sundays and place it on a shelf and go through our working week living life for our own purpose. We should always reflect God’s image anywhere at any time in all things we do.
How have you found the community at Trinity?
I couldn’t have found a better place and community to grow and learn in. We are more than just students, staff and lecturers, we are like family. From the cleaners to the Principal, everyone is friendly and greets you with a smile and hello.
What would you say to someone thinking about studying at Trinity?
Trinity is a great place to study. If you have big questions, this is the place to ask them. The phrase here at Trinity is, “Honest answers to tough questions,” which cannot be more true. If you’re like I was and you’re sitting on the fence thinking of studying, just do it. The only way to jump in the ocean is to get your feet wet first. You won’t know until you try.
Any plans for the future?
Right now I am concentrating on finishing my studies, but I know that during or by the end of my studies I will know for sure God’s future plan for me.
Thank you, Germaine!
